Easy-to-Make Tropical Rainstick

A wonderful sensory project for kids and crafts are a great way to work on fine motor skills as well!

You'll need:

  • Heavy cardboard tube, different sizes are fine too!

  • Caps for the end or duct tape

  • Seeds, pebbles, dried rice or other filler

  • Pretty paper to cover or brown paper you can decorate with coloring, painting, yarn or stickers!

    Directions:

  • for older children you can push in nails no longer than the width of the tube throughout the tube this creates the "trickle" effect and great sound!

  • Cover the one end of the tube and all of the nail area with tape, clear mailing tape or duct tape is fine

  • Pour in beans, lentils, seeds, etc. You don't need a lot!

  • Cap off the over end with good taping

  • Cover with brown wrapping material (bags or found at dollar tree in a roll)

  • Tape on the brown wrapping material

  • Decorate the tube with colors, yarn, stickers, paints, whatever!

For younger children that can't help with the nails you can make shakers:

  • Decorate your tube.

  • Seal off one end.

  • Add handfuls of your filler material. Seal off the other end.

  • Try different thing inside and different size tubes. Turn up and down slowly.

This is a simple craft even little ones can do.

This is a wonderful sensory craft. Young children love the sound and sensations this makes.
